How Decisions Are Made In Communal Societies

How Decisions Are Made in Communal Societies Read the article CLOSELY in this packet about how decisions were made in hunting and gathering societies. It is called decentralized–in other words, there is no central, main person or group who makes and enforces the rules. EVERYONE is responsible for enforcing the social “norms” or values of the society. What are the main valuses/morals of these hunting and gathering societies according to what this article says? Read the article as many times as is necessary.  After telling us what you think the main values are, give examples based on the societies that the article talks about. Do you see that these values were also shared by the 3 cultures you learned about in the videos for this week? How so? Give examples. Social Stratification Within Our Society

Introduction In this unit we have learned about social stratification within our society. As individuals we each have a unique location within these social structures that provides both privileges/opportunities and disadvantages/constraints. The purpose of this paper is to reflect on your own social location and describe your position within structural systems. Directions In a 2-3 page(not including the title or reference pages) paper answer the following questions. Your response should be written in a series of paragraphs and answering each of the questions. In other words, your response should be in traditional essay fashion. (Don’t just list the question and answer.) As such, you should have a title page and a reference page. At least 1 academic reference must be used. You are free to use more as needed. All references should be properly cited in either APA-6 or APA-7 format. And your paper should be formatted with Times New Roman font size 12, double-spaced with one inch margins all around. What is your social location? How does your identity position you within systems of power, privilege, and marginalization in society? How have social structures enabled and constrained your life and actions to this point? Describe the intersection between your biography and history illustrating the ways in which sociological factors have shaped your life? I have provided an additional resource to help with this assignment called The Diversity Wheel . This graphic will help you think through your various identities and begin to see how the social categories you belong to may provide advantage or disadvantage. The purpose of this paper is self-reflection paired with course concepts. The strongest papers will both effectively reflect on personal biography and apply sociological concepts presented in the readings and notes.

Ritual View Of Communication

1.What does James Carey mean by a ritual view of communication? How does his ritual view differ from a transmission view of communication? 2. From your own experiences, what rituals do you associate with the Superbowl? 3. How might we apply Carey’s ritual view to analyze the 2013 Budweiser Superbowl ad (and the Superbowl more broadly)? What does your application of his ritual view teach us about ourselves and our culture? 4. Given that the ritual model is an interpretive theory – how does your answer to #3 help illustrate what good interpretive theories try to do? (see the Griffin textbook, pp. 29-33; make links to 2-3 standards) You’ll need to understand Carey’s ritual model in order to complete your reflection essay – and the Carey model isn’t covered in your text. In your essay, you’ll connect 3 things – Carey’s ritual model(, a 2013 Budweiser Superbowl ad (discussed in Ch. 2 of the text – you’ll also watch it), and ideas from both Ch. 2 and 3 of the text. You may want to take notes as you watch Dr. Scott’s video Griffin et al., textbook Ch. 2 “Talk about Theory” Griffin et al.,textbook Ch. 3 “Weighing the Words” https://razvanchiojdoiu95.wordpress.com/2016/04/15/how-big-brands-use-classical-conditioning-in-their-adverts/ http://courseresources.mit.usf.edu/cas/spc3212/m2/obj_and_int/index.html#/

Participant Selection

Sampling In qualitative and quantitative studies, sampling refers to selecting a particular sample of individuals from a larger population. This process is often called participant selection. Qualitative research collects rich data from fewer sources, while quantitative research attempts to collect a larger, more representative sample from the population as a whole. Selection criteria for eligibility in a study is similar for both quantitative and qualitative studies, however, there are some differences with respect to the procedures used and the size of the samples. Instructions: Consider a particular topic (this can be the topic from one of your previous discussions or assignments), and a particular qualitative or quantitative research design and state the factors you would consider in choosing participants for the study. Be sure to answer the following in your discussion: What sampling method would you use? How would you go about deciding how many participants to select given a particular methodology? What factors should be considered regarding sample size, representativeness, and apparent biases in the selection of the sample? Your post should be at least 300 words.

A prompt That Irritates Me Because It’s A Prompt

Please read & respond to the following: Every single one of us brings a wealth of knowledge and ideas from the perspective of our own lived experiences. While some of our experiences and backgrounds might be similar in some ways, I can guarantee that there are just as many differences. And that is a good thing! It means we have a lot to learn from each other. In fact, the success of this course depends on every individual contributing his or her ideas and perspectives to the online discussions. To this end, we first need to set some ground rules or norms that will foster the kind of online space where engaging, respectful, and thought-provoking discussions can occur.  What kinds of behaviors make people feel like their ideas and contributions are valued and respected in an online discussion? What kinds of behaviors make people feel like their ideas and contributions are not valued and respected in an online discussion?

Questionnaire Design

Using the textbook, required articles and recommended resources, construct a 5-6 item questionnaire on a topic of your choice. Your questionnaire can include either open-ended or closed-ended (fixed format) questions. Submit your completed questionnaire to this discussion forum. Be sure to consider the following when responding: What are the strengths and weaknesses of the questionnaire overall? Consider how the items are worded and the response choices, if applicable, are provided. Are the questions clear and concise? Are there any questions that are vague or unclear? If applicable, are the response choices effective? Is there only one correct response choice? Are there any unintentional cues to the correct answer? Do the items appear to be a good measure of what the student is wanting to assess? How could the questionnaire be improved? Respond to at least two of your classmates’ postings by providing evaluations of their questionnaires. Responses to students should be at least 200 words in length.
