In this class, we have covered many issues relating to family violence.  As you have learned, there are many misconceptions about these topics.  One way to dispel the myths and address the problems associated with family violence is to educate people about these complex areas.   For this project you will design an informational program aimed at educating a certain population about one aspect of family violence.      Part I–8 points: This will be submitted as the Discussion Board for Week 11 due Tuesday, November 17.   For Part 2 see the Final Project tab on the course menu. Initial Post-This should be approximately two paragraphs: Choose a topic in the field.  A few examples:  date rape, stalking, child sexual abuse, failure to thrive.  Explain why you have chosen the topic you selected.  Please get your topic approved by me. Identify the audience you will seek to reach.  Explain why you have chosen the group you selected.  Examples:  College students, young parents, caregivers, child care workers, the general public, etc. Explain where you would hold such a presentation and how you would reach out to potential attendees. Make an outline of topics and subtopics you will cover. Response Post: Comment on a project idea of another student. Your response post should be two to three sentences.

The essay demonstrates your ability to write clearly and concisely on a selected topic and helps you distinguish yourself in your own voice. What do you want the readers of your application to know about you apart from courses, grades, and test scores? Choose the option that best helps you answer that question and write an essay of no more than 650 words, using the prompt to inspire and structure your response. Remember: 650 words is your limit, not your goal. Use the full range if you need it, but don’t feel obligated to do so. (The application won’t accept a response shorter than 250 words.) The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience? Reflect on a time when you questioned or challenged a belief or idea. What prompted your thinking? What was the outcome? Describe a problem you’ve solved or a problem you’d like to solve. It can be an intellectual challenge, a research query, an ethical dilemma-anything that is of personal importance, no matter the scale. Explain its significance to you and what steps you took or could be taken to identify a solution. Discuss an accomplishment, event, or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself or others. If you can write it to apply to a business topic that would be great. I struggle so hard with personal essays. I am applying to go to undergrad business school. I have an AA degree in economics that I earned while in high school. Thank you!!!

Discuss the concept of masculinity as it applied to English gentlemen of the 1900s (pages 197-206 of Studying Culture). Drawing on the documentary Cocaine Cowboys, which we watched earlier in the semester, discuss how masculinity is defined in the documentary – what kinds of behaviors make someone masculine? How is masculinity represented in the documentary? Make sure to describe specific examples as support – do not simply count on me to “know what you mean.” Write as if I have not viewed the film. Folklore maintains that the native marsh bird is the last to take shelter before a hurricane hits and the first to emerge once the storm passes, making it an apt symbol of courage and resilience. Considering your ability to control your own motivation and behavior, how have past experiences helped build your courage and resilience to persist in the face of academic and life challenges so that, once these storms pass, you can emerge in continued pursuit of your goals?

New Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) systems have started to incorporate numerous communication and networking functions, as well as increasingly more sophisticated computing capabilities. Such systems enable medical personnel to constantly monitor the patient’s condition remotely, as well as access data and reconfigure the implant remotely (i.e., without the patient being physically present in medical facilities). Evolving from a mere electromechanical implantable medical device to one with more advanced computing and communication capabilities has many benefits but also raises a number of other ethical concerns. 1. various methodological techniques for studying the social world are discussed. A key aspect of sociological research is utilizing the power of observation. Applying what you have learned about sociological research: First, discuss the role of observational research as a key methodology for studying society. Second, utilizing nonparticipant observation, participant observation, ethnography or netnography observe and record a detailed account of a social context or virtual social context that you are no stranger to (think local coffee shop, shopping mall, church or night club, a blog, twitter feed, or Instagram) from a sociological perspective. Be careful to be objective and ethically neutral. Do not include judgments or opinions of behaviors but rather, as best as possible, systematic observations. Third, discuss how a common-sense view of that social setting may look different from a sociological one. Does looking through the lens of sociological research methodology transform how that social space may be viewed. Substantiate your views.
