Sociologists believe that gender is largely a cultural performance. Thus, what it means to “be a man” and to be a “woman” is not solely determined by what and how an individual presents (“impression management”) but also on what others will accept. Use lecture and reading materials on gender to analyze an episode of your life, where thinking back on it now, gender was culturally performed and policed by your peers and/or authority figures. Were inequalities of gender reproduced and recreated in this episode?
