Faith Before Reason
Explain the three paradigms utilized for describing the relationship between faith and reason by answering the following sub-questions: A. Explain the faith before reason paradigm for addressing the relationship between faith and reason (Provide a definition and an advocate of the paradigm.) B. List two objections to the faith before reason paradigm. C. Explain the reason before faith paradigm for addressing the relationship between faith and reason (Provide a definition and an advocate of the paradigm). D. List two objections to the reason before faith paradigm. E. Explain the faith alone paradigm for addressing the relationship between faith and reason (Provide a definition and an advocate of the paradigm). F. How does a discussion of the relationship of faith and reason reflect the mythos/Logos paradigm? (Define mythos worldview; Define the logos worldview; explain the extent to which these are reflected in the discussion of and tension between faith and reason). Utilize the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy article cited in this weeks reading in responding to the following material: G. Cite one objection/problem which those affirming the notion that “God is unbounded by the temporal sequence” will inevitably encounter and how might this problem be countered by the “faith before reason” paradigm? H. Imagine there is a God who knows the future free action of human beings. If God does know you will freely do some act X, then it is true that you will indeed do X. But if you are free, would you not be free to avoid doing X? Given that it is foreknown you will do X, it appears you would not be free to refrain from the act. Questions: 1. In what manner does the above scenario constitute a dilemma/paradox? 2. Can the above paradox be resolved? If so, how? If not, why not? 3. How might this problem reflect both the “faith before reason” and the “reason before faith” paradigms?
