Data Management
As consumers increasingly adopt digital technology, the data they generate create both an opportunity for enterprises to improve their consumer engagement and a responsibility to keep consumer data safe. These data, including location-tracking and other kinds of personally identifiable information, are immensely valuable to companies: many organizations, for example, use data to better understand the consumers pain points and unmet needs. And with the rise of Artificial Intelligence, it has become easier to process personal data in an automated way, which in turn can lead to profiling. Where such profiling results in automated decisions (without human intervention), the consent of the data subjects must in principle be obtained. These days, checking a box saying that you have read and understood a websites privacy policy is widely used. Most likely, you dont have a legal background to actually understand the privacy policy, and no one has the time, patience, or energy to try to parse what data websites are storing and how theyre using it to their advantage. Companies that use your digital information for profit state that it is being used to better enhance your online experience, and although that may be partially true, it’s mostly just so they can sell your information for money.Do you agree with the collection and selling of your personal information? How would you suggest the companies be held accountable if they are hacked and your personal information is stolen?
