Dimension Of Globalization
The topic is : Critically analyze the relationship between sport and globalization, focusing on one or more specific dimension of globalization e.g., migration, transnational corporations, mass media, the importance of global brands and branding, etc. Instructors evaluate an essay in terms of several key characteristics. If it fulfills all of these characteristics, it is an A paper or better; if it falls short in one or more of these areas, the mark drops accordingly. Papers will be assessed on the basis of the originality of your central argument, the clarity of your organization and analyasis, and the quality of your writing and research. In general, first-class papers will have the following characteristics: 1) They will have a clear thesis statement, or central argument. For example, In light of the corruption associated with recent Olympic Games, they should be ended in their current form. Like the ancient Games, only a permanent site will maximize the benefits and minimize the risks of this event. Or, The advances in womens sport in the US inter-collegiate system have re-defined, but not ended, gender inequalities. The thesis statement should be clearly articulated in the introduction to your essay, so that the reader knows where your argument is headed. 2) They will be well-organized and argued. Your structure and analysis must be designed to support your central argument and theme(s). An essay should flow logically and should not contradict itself or confuse the reader. Developing a clear outline of the paper BEFORE starting to write is extremely helpful. 3) They will be solidly researched. Over-reliance on a couple of sources is poor scholarship and always dangerous: not only does it court plagiarism, but they may be poor quality sources! Although it is perfectly acceptable to draw on reputable journalism (as well as electronic sources), you should have a strong base of high quality (peer reviewed) academic articles or books. Ideas (NOT just quotations) that are not original should always be referenced using a consistent citation format (APA, Chicago style, etc). And assertions which are original must be supported with solid evidence. In addition, the best papers show imagination and original thought. Think about the problem/question for yourself, and read your sources critically: does their argument make sense? Do you have a differentand betterexplanation for the problem or issue you are addressing? 4) The quality of the writing will be high. Careless writing weakens even the best-researched and most original essays. Moreover, it is easily avoided. If you know this is a challenge for you, seek the assistance of the Writing Workshop, and/or peers.
