Cultural Factors and Their Influence on Medications
There are many factors that would influence medications. One of which is culture. Some cultures have easier access to medications than others. Certain things like this absolutely influence medications and that’s where improvements and advancements usually come from. Every culture has their own ways and beliefs in just about anything. The Filipino culture is one of the Asian cultures who believe in hot and cold therapy as well as massage therapy which is called “hilot” in the Filipino language. This is usually what less fortunate people do when they can’t afford to go to clinics or hospitals. Another health belief is herbal or medicinal treatments. One impact with this on medication preparation is that herbalist or what they call as “arbularyo” would make a topical medication made up of different kinds of herbs and one ingredient might be contraindicated to one of the patient’s medications.
