Rhonchi are also called low-pitched wheezes. They are often caused by secretions in larger airways or obstructions. Rhonchi can be heard in patients with pneumonia, chronic bronchitis, cystic fibrosis or COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). The intermediate course provides additional information regarding early and late inspiratory rales (crackles).Rhonchi are continuous low pitched, rattling lung sounds that often resemble snoring. Obstruction or secretions in larger airways are frequent causes of rhonchi.
