For this week’s discussion posting of 150-200 words, please pick between Scenario 1 or Scenario 2 below and answer both questions for that scenario below for your initial post.

Scenario 1:

Student has been working with mentor at facility. The student has noticed on more than one occasion questionable behavior by a small group of staff members. For example, the student has witnessed the group openly discussing patient information within earshot of other patients/family members or callously commenting on patient conditions or diagnoses.

A – What is wrong with this situation?

B – What would you do if the mentor was a part of the group in question?

2. Conference or Meeting Proposal Discussion 7.1

Conferences/Meetings are a great way to network and maintain a current knowledge base in your particular field. However, they can also be costly in terms of money as well as lost of productivity being away from the job. This discussion will help you consider when to attend and how to ask your supervisor to attend such a professional development event.

• What are 3-5 selling points for why to go?
  • For example: Why are you going? What are you bringing back from the meeting? How is it a part of professional development?
• How much would it cost (registration, travel/parking/Uber/Lyft/taxi, lodging, meals, etc.)?

Think about your future career:

What type of professional development will you need?

What is the importance of continuing professional development?

What benefits might you gain from attending a conference as a part of your professional development?

4. Employee Evaluation Discussion 9

For this discussion forum, you will reflect upon a “real-world” situation that calls for you to imagine a scenario where:

You as the employee receive a negative evaluation from your supervisor.

Such negative things might include:

Failure to recognize the quantity or quality of work you feel you produce.

Places blame on you for actions that others were actually responsible for.

Accuses you of attempting to undermine the supervisor’s authority.

Reflects bias towards you

Does not count professional development taken which was required for the position

You feel that the evaluation was unfair and attributes negative behaviors to you that you do not feel you demonstrated.
