Evolution of Motivational Theory

Discussion 1: Evolution of Motivational Theory Researchers in organizational psychology apply multiple theories to help explain work motivation. To better understand how these theoretical models have evolved requires tracing work motivation theory from its beginnings to the present day. Understanding the influences and interconnectedness of theoretical frameworks informs motivation and may reveal future directions and trends in work motivation research. A review of the historical trajectory of work motivation theory not only informs your responses to clients grappling with motivational problems affecting their employees, but may also equip you with relevant knowledge and insight to handle challenges affecting tomorrow’s workforce as well. For this Discussion, you examine the changes in the evolution of work motivation theory and consider how you might apply work motivation theory to your present or future work settings.
