Fear of Loathing in Las Vegas
Your final written assignment is to produce TWO reviews of Terry Gilliam’s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The first review must praise the film–the second must condemn it. GUIDELINES: 1-Present both texts in a single, typed document. Upload the document as PDF (no other file format will be accepted) and be sure to include your name and class section WITHIN the document. 2-Each review should be at least 650 words long. Use specific evidence from the film to support your case(s) and avoid the unnecessary repetition of ideas. 3-NO OUTSIDE RESEARCH IS PERMITTED, though you may quote from the film itself and from other course texts. 4-As you work on each review, feel free to abandon or exaggerate your personal opinions. Be clear about WHY you are praising or condemning the film, but feel free to adopt writerly personae–that is, to pretend to be somebody other than your own good self. If this pushes you into the domain of satire, so be it! Just make sure that your texts hang together and service their respective theses. 5-Don’t cheat! No ghost writers! No editors! Hand in your own work! HAVE FUN! 6-This assignment will be due at 8am on Dec 2nd. For written feedback, assignments will be due before the second class of week 11. Multiple submissions will NOT be permitted–i.e., any revisions you carry out after your submission will not alter your original grade.
