First Poem for You
Due date is 10/24/2020 at 9 am and i need it before then. I need a poetry analysis with 750 words over the poem “First Poem for You” by Kim Addonizio. All that has been told to us on writing it is this: . Have a very clear analytical thesis in mind. Poetry analysis essays without clear thesis statements (central theories) are never very good; mostly they turn out to be just a series of “tossed off” interpretations of lines. Remember that anybody can offer any sort of interpretation of a line or an image regardless of whether or not it fits the rest of the poem. The key to making your interpretation plausible is to fit all of these readings of the parts of the poem into a unifying thesis (an overall interpretation of the poem). 2. either choose a longer poem or be prepared to explicate. If you explicate a shorter poem, remember that you need to interpret each individual image in the poem to show how it fits into your overall interpretation of the poem. Remember that poetry is not fiction, and we must assume that the poet is being very deliberate in the choice of each word, the creation of each image and the construction of each line, so don’t fail to consider such things as imagery, symbolism and word choice in your essay. When you quote lines (and keep the quotes short and focused), explain specific word choices and images. 3. Remember that restating or paraphrasing lines of poetry is not interpretation–don’t just rephrase what the lines are telling us overtly; offer an analytical theory about what the lines say and why they say it in that particular way.
