Gender and Creativity in the Renaissance
Week 1 Discussion QuestionThe Renaissance: Were there actually no women artists/writers/craftspeople, or is it that our lack of interest in them today that has allowed them to fade from our awareness? Were women artists not valued because they worked in mediums at their disposal cloth, fabric, food, et cetera as opposed to real art forms painting, sculpture, literature, precious metals, et cetera? Or are we today still critical of women in art, viewing the mediums that women could use as being inferior? Is the issue of lack of respect for women as artists today what keeps us ignorant of the accomplishments of women in the past?Be sure to support your ideas with examples from the required readings and videos for the week. As always, citation is mandatory.
