Gender as Art
Gender as Art Gender Expression/Presentation: external appearance of one’s gender identity, usually expressed through behavior, clothing, haircut or voice, and which may or may not conform to socially defined behaviors and characteristics typically associated with being either masculine or feminine. Directions: For this project I want you to explore the concept of gender through art. Thinking back on the semester and all the topics we have covered in class and in reflecting on your own gender expression, I want you to create a piece of art that expresses gender. You can feel free to get creative with this assignment but their is no expectation that you are all artists. Let’s be clear, I am NOT an artist. You do not need to be an art major to complete this assignment. Just be creative. Your art piece could be any of the following; paint or draw a picture create a sculpture or form of 3D art take a photograph or digital image put together a collage of pictures or words write a poem or short story write a song/perform a song record a video clip Guidelines: Your art piece should be a representation of gender in some form. Your art must convey a message of positivity. Your creation must be visually appealing, created with care and love by YOU
