Influence of the Internet
Overview: Write a research paper that explores and discusses a particular topic of interest. Select a topic from the list and read both sides of the issue. Create a thesis with your opinion and point of view and prove this thesis within your paper. You may include the opposing viewpoint to support and strengthen your argument and personal response. The research paper should demonstrate that you understand how to incorporate material used from outside sources into the body of your paper. Format: The length of the paper must be 5-7 pages. Your paper must be typed using the Times New Roman font (size 12), double-spaced, and one-inch margins. All research papers submitted in this class must follow the MLA guidelines found within your textbook. A proper bibliography or works cited page is mandatory. You are required to use the MLA format for your paper which will be discussed in class and is also available online: MLA.org. You will learn how to use the style recommended by the Modern Language Association (MLA) for documenting sources in research papers including how to insert parenthetical in-text citations and creating a works cited page. Sources: You must use a minimum of five outsides sources. Locate five different outside sources for applicable information to support your thesis. It is highly recommended that you use the SCCC library website, strongly focusing on Article & Databases (EBSCO & GALE), as well as Current Issues (Opposing Viewpoints in Context, SIRS Knowledge Source, & Facts on Files: Issues and Controversies). You may also use appropriate books, encyclopedias, articles, and the internet within reason. You must provide a quotation from each source with pertinent analysis to support your thesis. You may use no more than two Internet sources. ALL sources (including printouts of web articles) must be brought to class on specific dates for the teachers evaluation.
