Interpreting Societal Trends

For this assignment, think about your community and your future career. It is fine to think of yourself as the owner or a supervisor in a company. Your company is thinking about how to respond to the City Council as they consider how accepting the city will be of immigrants. A list of questions to consider in your response as a company representative is below. You have many potential sources you may check. Assignment Instructions: You need two sources. Your response should be at least 500 words. Remember, your target is the City Council so you can write it as a business letter or as an academic paper, whichever format you feel most comfortable with. (Use the IWG standards.) Consider the following questions as you write your paper: What is the value to your company in terms of immigrant employees? Do you need them or do you not want them? Why? What is the value to your company of immigrant customers? Does your company count on local business? Would an immigration influx help you with more business, increase competition, drive prices down, or some other result? In terms of your company’s values, where do you stand on immigration? You may think of other valid concerns such as taxation issues, public safety, languages, etc.
