Leadership Style and Ethical Strategy
Recently, you started a new job as Operations Manager for a MyWebDevCo. In your first week on the job, your supervisor told you about several problems that require solutions within the next six months. First, each functional area (website design, client services, website hosting, and marketing) is experiencing high levels of conflict, which has created some dysfunction. You have spoken with members of each of these functional areas, and in each one, it seems that a few members of the department are creating all the problems. All these individuals are valued contributors who have many successful websites to their credit. The high levels of conflict are creating problems in each department, and negative moods and emotions are much more prevalent than positive feelings. Furthermore, you noted increasing complaints from employees that good performance is going unrecognized and that they do not feel equitably treated. Moreover, there have been complaints about getting managers to listen to their new ideas and to act on them. A bad atmosphere is developing in these departments and recently several talented employees left. Second, customers are also reporting a negative experience. The complaints ranged from the employees being hard to reach, promising unrealistic completion times, and being late for or failing to keep appointments to their being impatient and rude when customers had trouble making up their minds. Third, employees are organized into different functions such as website design, client services, website hosting, and marketing. A single client services employee manages new projects from initial customer request to final online website hosting. The problem is that it typically takes six months from the initial idea stage to the time that the website is up and running. Therefore, you need to shorten this time by half to protect and expand its market niche to engage in global opportunities. In talking with your boss, you discover that she believes the companys current functional structure is the source of the problemit is not allowing employees to develop websites fast enough to satisfy customers demands. How will you go about retaining valued employees and alleviating the conflict and negative feelings in these departments? How can you apply your knowledge of group dynamics to foster the development of productive coalitions? How can you understand the impact of the global environment on your organization? Create a written presentation of your recommendations, with optional video, audio or illustrations, that includes the following: Compare and contrast leadership and management styles with some emphasis on the global business environment. Recommend at least one leadership and one management style for the company. Recommend an ethical strategy that can be used during decision making and problem-solving Provide an explanation of your recommendations using at least two biblical perspectives from the sacred text (Bible). Your recommendations should be based on research from peer-reviewed and scholarly resources from OCLS. (At least three).
