[ORDER SOLUTION] Learning Disabilities
Students with high incidence disabilities (specific learning disabilities, speech or language impairments, and other health impairments) account for 71% of the students served under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (USDOE, 2015). Students with high incidence disabilities are often placed in regular education classrooms for at least 80% of the school day with a range of supports and accommodations. Over the years, research has shown that students with high incidence disabilities share characteristics such as deficits in academic and non-academic behavior; difficulties with literacy and numeracy; and problems with memory and executive function among others (Raymond, 2016). The special education teachers who serve these students must be skilled at identifying the characteristics and strategies that allow the selection of successful interventions.John is a sixth grade student who has just been identified as a student with a specific learning disability. He exhibits a number of problems of concern to his teachers and family. He has shown deficits in behavior (e.g., calling out in class, disrupting classmates, & not completing classwork) and significant difficulties in reading and mathematics. In English, his greatest problem is reading comprehension. In mathematics, he displays adequate computation skills, but he has a documented deficit in solving word problems.Interventions for John would need to be multi-faceted to address the behavioral and academic deficits that interfere with his progress. Explain how you would assess, develop, implement, and evaluate an intervention plan for John, using the following guidelines:Identify and describe one assessment that you would use to gather data for each of the three areas of deficit (e.g., classroom behavior, reading comprehension, & solving mathematics word problems).Explain how these data would be used to make instructional decisions for John.Identify and discuss one evidence-based instructional strategy designed to provide support for each area of deficit (e.g., classroom behavior, reading comprehension, & solving mathematics word problems).Describe a plan to evaluate the effectiveness of your instructional strategies and provide research support for the evaluation plan.
