As a result, an estimate of 1 million pressure ulcers injuries occurs in the United States of America. 2.7% are patients in acute care in ICU and an increase of 2% to 28% in nursing homes (2004 CDC). Research is continuously being reviewed, therefore, new methods and advanced innovations are considered throughout the years. In a recent study researchers have concluded that managing pressure ulcers injuries are different depending on the patients health condition. This research will illustrate q2 hours vs q1 hour turning and positioning patients who are mobility impaired. Moreover, this paper will Explain the effectiveness of managing pressure ulcers by standard of care every 2 hours by nurses and the care team and practising safer methods to reduce pressure ulcer injuries . In this assignment the Johns Hopkins Nursing Evidence-Based Practice Model tools were used( see Appendix A). PICO and Evidence-Based Practice Question As researchers, nurses have proven to be ones to shape the quality of care given to our patients at a satisfactory level therefore, they are the problem solvers and can shape health care policies in the clinical setting by using literature to help identify evidence base questions. There are four components in clinical research base evidence, these are known as PICO. PICO has proven to be effective throughout clinical study and has been used as a guide to help nursing researchers to help address many complex clinical questions. In this study PICO was established to determine if frequent (q1 hour) and positioning decreases pressure ulcer incidence in mobility imparied patients more effectively than standard q2 turning and positioning.. P (population) are mobility imparied patients, I ( intervention) q1 hour turning and position, C (comparison) standard of care every 2 hours, and O (outcome) decrease pressure ulcer incidents (Appendix A).
