Macro Nutrient Disease AssignmentThe purpose of this assignment is to learn how to breakdown difficult information and communicate it to a patient. Being able to communicate effectively to patients is a critical part of health care. Not knowing what an inborne error of metabolism of a macro is by selecting an incorrect disease will result in a zero on the assignment. Not all inborne errors of metabolism are macros some are of trace minerals or vitamins. Macros are CHO, pro and fat. Think about “how would I want a health professional to teach me about this disease if my child was born with it) when writing this assignment. Part 1:Select an inborne error in metabolism which causes a disease that negatively affects a macro-nutrient and is life-threatening. Fat, sugar or protein is either mal-absorbed or incorrectly stored or metabolized. There are many of them listed in the chapters for those macros. (Do not do diabetes, lactose intolerance, inborne errors that are NOT related to the metabolism of CHO, PRO or fat. No vitamins or minerals. (also do not pick atherosclerosis or marasmus and kwashiorikor) Write a 1-2 page, single spaced article about the disease and what causes it. For part 1 include 2 minimum scientific peer-reviewed references-your book is not one of the 2 references but could be reference # 3. Check out the references at the end of the chapters for that disease. Write this section (Part 1) as if you were writing to fellow health professionals. It must be scientific and current on the disease. THS PART IS VERY SCIENTIFIC WITH CURRENT RESEARCH ETC. USE SCIENTIFIC PEER REVIEWED ARTICLES.Put references at the end of each part of the assignment. Almost as if they are 3 difference assignments.Part 1 is worth 80 points.Part 2:Select your patient, you determine the age and sex of the patient and re-word your part 1 above as if you were explaining it to your patient’s caregivers. Put it in a language you feel they will understand and use examples to help clarify. 1-2 pages, single spaced. You need to reference this part also. THIS IS EVERYTHING IN PART 1 BUT BROKEN DOWN FOR A 12 YEAR OLD TO UNDERSTAND.Part 2 is worth 80 points.Part 3:Part 3 is worth 40 points.For part 3, write a recommendation of changes to the patient’s diet and the medical therapy in a language the patient understands. 1 page single spaced. Be creative. This is about educating the family with resources to help you teach. They need to know how it will affect their child’s life both now and in the future. Include sample menus and feeding schedules through out the patients life cycle and all web-based resources. Use graphics to explain your concepts to the parents. THIS PART HAS LOTS OF GRAPHICS, MENUS, PICS or VISUAL THINGS TO HELP TEACH. This part also need references if you pull things off the internet.
