Professional Organizations
Welcome to your MHA course! Many of you may be new to the healthcare field; others may consider yourselves experts in a healthcare area. Regardless of where you are in your career, networking with other professionals is very important for many reasons. Networking can help you solve problems that you may be facing in your job, offer resources for solutions to many challenges, provide career opportunities, establish friendships for life, and so forth.
In case you have not had an opportunity to join a professional organization, faculty in the MHA program have compiled a listing of organizations with which we have experience, as well as others that are prominent in the healthcare field. Please take time to review the benefits, particularly as a student, since many have free or reduced membership fees.

Post Your Introduction
Post a brief introduction on the first day of class. This discussion is your opportunity to become acquainted with class peers and the instructor and to begin to develop community for the class, which will enable you to have deeper and more engaging conversations throughout the other discussions in the course. Although you may already be acquainted with class peers and your instructor, this class is unique in that some of you have not met previously and have not experienced this class together in this particular group composition. Therefore, consider this discussion your opportunity to develop connections with peers and your instructor that can expand and enrich your developing professional learning network, which will serve you well in and beyond your degree program for support and inspiration in your area of professional practice. In your initial post
State your full name and, if applicable, any preferred name (e.g., nickname).
State your location (i.e., the city or state where you live)
State which program you are enrolled in and, if applicable, your specialization.
State which course you last completed and the most significant thing you learned from that course as it relates to your degree focus and/or professional practice.
Review each weekly homepage in our course taking note of the assessments assigned for each week. Then, describe the assessments you are most excited about completing and why.
Review the course learning outcomes. Then, summarize what you already know about the course topics in relation to those outcomes.
Think about how the topic of our course is related to other courses you have taken and your life experiences. Summarize how you think this course can support your professional practice in your chosen field now and/or in future anticipated practice.
Guided Response: Respond to at least three of your classmates posts. In your replies, ask questions of peers about specific comments from their responses to encourage further conversation and learn more from one another. Consider which assessments your peers are most excited to complete and their reasons why. Ask questions that promote continued conversation about these assessments. Additionally, consider what your peers know about the course topics and how they think the course will support their professional practice. Ask questions to gain deeper insights about their existing knowledge and plans for application. Though three replies is the basic expectation in this discussion, for deeper engagement and community building, you are encouraged to provide responses to questions others have posted for you to further the conversations. Doing so will give you opportunities to network and get to know your instructor and peers for more optimal engagement in the coming weeks!
My name is M. G and I, live in Indiana. I received my BA in Gerontology, and I am working on my masters for Healthcare Administration. My last class was MHA605: Business Intelligence (MHA1845A) which went in detail on how to understand statistics and applying analytics. We then took that information and tried to use that to help us in our career or future career. When you are trying to show others why something should be changed or doing it a different way would make it better, you must show facts to support your goal. You want to show your facts through graphs or other visual aid. I think the week four will be useful for where I am in my career now. Right now, I am the scheduler and central supply person for a nursing home facility and becoming more professional in my skills and having better organizational skills to do my job better. Week four is Strategic planning and financial planning and how they work together.
Looking at the outcomes from each week assignments there will always be something you can learn from each section. We know that any organization to be successful must be financially stable and to be able to put improvements in an organization you must have income coming back into the facility. Laws and regulatory issues set a certain standard for how things should be done, and as an organization, you always want to be better than average. Then you also have the ACA which helps ensure that people who may not usually be able to avoid proper health care can receive care as well. Week three is the general principles of accounting and making the right decisions. Being successful in an organization means knowing how to budget and have management control. Week five outcomes may also be a new learning experience because of the calculations of breaking even, the appropriate cost evaluations of making sound management decisions. I think this class will be a big learning step into my future goals.
On a side note, I love being able to be with my family and with my youngest being 18, our fur babies are very important to us. We look forward to being capable to making time to do things that we enjoy doing more often and being able to have and go on a real vacation from life responsibilities, and I am sure there will be many things I will learn and take from this class.
Thanks,
Margaret
