POST1:
Hello Class,
I am venturing out of my safe space and writing the first discussion post. Based on the prompt, I have entered my table with my typical daily activities. Please, hold your jealousy when learning my exciting real-life daily schedule.
Time (T) |
Activity (A) |
4 AM |
Sleeping |
8 AM |
Signing Time cards |
12 PM |
Lunch |
4 PM |
Prioritizing emails |
8 PM |
Homework |
12 AM |
Sleeping |
I’ve decided to represent my relation (T, A) as ordered pairs as follows:
(4AM, Sleeping)
(8AM, Signing time cards)
(12PM, Lunch)
(4PM, Prioritizing emails)
(8PM, Homework )
(12AM, Sleeping)
As defined by our text, a function is a relation where for every element in the domain, there is exactly one element in the range (p. 17). Assuming in my table where Time (T) is my domain and Activity (A) is my range, there is only one activity per time and no repetition, this proves that my relation is a function.

POST2:
Time (T) | Activity (A) |
4:00 AM | Sleeping |
8:00 AM | Answering Emails |
12:00 PM | Programming |
4:00 PM | Cooking Dinner |
8:00 PM | Homework/Work |
12:00 AM | Sleeping |
{(4:00 AM, Sleep) , (8:00 AM, Emails),(12:00 PM, Programming), (4:00 PM, Cooking), (8:00 PM Homework), (12:00 AM, Sleep)}
I wanted to include a mapping but I couldn’t figure out how to paste it into this format. It is attached if anyone is interested.
A relation is a correspondence between a first set, called the domain, and a second set, called the range such that each member of the domain corresponds to at least one member of the range (Bittinger, Beecher, Ellenbogen, Penna, 2016).
The Domain is the input and the range is the output. For this example the Domain is the Time value and the Activity is the range value. My set of relations is a function. This is because each Input, or Time has one and only one range, or Activity.
