The National HIV/AIDS Strategy has three primary goals: to reduce the number of new HIV infections, to improve HIV patients access to care and health outcomes, and to reduce HIV-related health inequities (HealthyPeople.gov, 2018). Routine HIV screening and diagnosis guidelines include the recommendation for anyone between the ages of 13 and 64 to be tested at least once a year (HealthyPeople.gov, 2018). HIV tests are classified into three types: nucleic acid tests (NAT), antigen/antibody tests, and antibody tests (HealthyPeople.gov, 2018). If a test results in a positive result, the person will be referred to a health care provider for further testing (Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention et al., 2018).
