Determinants of health/host, agent, environmental factors
Socioeconomic factors, the physical environment, and individual behaviors are all common TB health determinants. Poverty is a major social determinant of tuberculosis because it determines people’s living conditions. Another risk factor for developing the disease is malnutrition. Malnutrition causes secondary immunodeficiency, which increases a person’s susceptibility to tuberculosis infection (Narasimhan et al., 2013). Smoking and alcohol abuse both increase a person’s chances of contracting tuberculosis because they cause other medical conditions that weaken the immune system. Smoking harms the lungs in a variety of ways, and smokers are 40–60% more likely to develop pulmonary tuberculosis, the most common form of the disease (Narasimhan et al., 2013). Excessive alcohol consumption harms the body and interferes with the effectiveness of TB treatment drugs. People who have cancer, diabetes, Crohn’s disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, HIV/AIDS, or other immune-compromising conditions are at a high risk of contracting tuberculosis. These conditions render an already weakened immune system defenseless against tuberculosis (Narasimhan et al., 2013).

and genetic diseases are all host factors for tuberculosis. Mycobacterium tuberculosis is the microbe that causes tuberculosis. Poorly ventilated, crowded, and filthy home and work environments are environmental factors that promote tuberculosis. Air pollution, geographical areas with a high incidence of tuberculosis, and work environments with high levels of airborne or released toxins all promote the growth of the mycobacterium tuberculosis germ.
