To assess your ability to develop a purchasing and inventory plan. Overview In this assignment, you will develop a purchasing and inventory plan. This plan should provide a guide for purchasing materials to produce your product and the inventory levels you need to keep on hand. It will also help determine the inventory levels of your finished product needed to meet distribution demands. Action Items Using the outline of the operations in the program plan that you created in Week 1, add detailed methods that you would need for purchasing and inventory control. Your plan should be five to six pages in length. Include the following: Determine the appropriate inventory mix you will need to produce your product Determine the efficient inventory levels of each component material that you need to keep to minimize the cost of inventories Determine staffing needs (i.e., contract negotiators, inventory managers, shipping clerks) Determine storage needs Evaluate the use of: Economic order quantities Quantity discounts Automatic inventory systems Lean approaches Develop a system for tracking purchasing and inventory levels Determine appropriate inventory levels of finished products to have on hand Determine storage needs including green strategies Determine staffing needs (sales personnel, warehouse personnel) Consider forecasting for future growth both in production and sales Identify possible technologies that can be used to manage the logistics and track the transportation processes Cite any resources (e.g., the textbook, the selected organization’s Web site, journal articles, personal communication, etc.) in APA format. Follow the Standard Format for Academic Papers in the OSCM Program guidelines. The OSCM report guidelines are available on the course Web site. Submit your paper to Turnitin.
