Rehabilitation Case Study

The purpose of this assignment is to provide students who wish to work in the rehabilitation field a chance to work through a scenario in order to apply their knowledge and experience in a practical format.    Students will read the case study thoroughly and write a paper in response to the prompts provided below (1 page minimum response per prompt, totaling at least 5 pages):   Describe the client’s demographics and client history. Describe in detail what you perceive the issue to be in the case. Describe how you would address the issue at hand including resources needed, stakeholders involved and outline of plan. Describe the possible legal and ethical issues involved with the case. Reflect on how working through this case study helps prepare you for your future career in the field.   Case Study:   Kelly, a 73 year old Caucasian female, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease 4 years ago. Kelly has been married to her husband for 32 years and has no children. Her father was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease 6 years before he passed away. There are no other known medical conditions that impact Kelly’s family, nor are there any other medical conditions that she suffers from. Kelly worked as a school teacher up until retirement at age 65 and moved to Florida with her husband into their beach home. Due to the increasing effects of the disease, she and her husband have recently moved to an extended care community. Her husband felt that he was unable to provide the appropriate assistance to her on his own. Kelly, originally against the idea, agreed to this move after experiencing several falls despite the use of a walker.    Due to Kelly’s increasing needs they were then transferred to the Skilled Care unit where she received physical and occupational therapy and nursing services. She began to show some improvement under the close supervision of the staff. However, Kelly felt that she had lost her independence and sense of self. After consideration, the facility’s staff felt it was appropriate to move Kelly to a less supervised unit after the improvements she had made. Her husband expressed his concern regarding the move as he felt she was thriving due to the assistance provided in the Skilled Care unit.    Within days of the move to a less supervised unit, Kelly began to experience falls again. Ultimately, Kelly sustained a hip fracture as a result of one of her falls. Her condition then began to rapidly deteriorate.
