Texas Congressional District Project Objectives: To gain a better understanding of the levels and responsibilities of U.S. government within the state of Texas; to increase knowledge of information resources for U.S. government; to increase understanding of a U.S. Representative’s responsibilities; to increase knowledge of political party organization within Texas; to enhance research skills. Instructions. For the Texas Congressional District you have been assigned, gather the following information and provide the following answers. Your papers should follow this same outline and flow. Your papers should include the question or prompt followed by your answer and the source of your information, which will likely include the URL; providing of the URL is part of the assignment. Failure to supply the URLs for each question/answer will result in point deductions for each such omission. A suggested way to do this would simply be to copy and paste these questions and prompts below and then adapt it to you include your answers. A template for you to use has also been provided for your convenience. Example:  Who is the U.S. Representative from this district, and which party do they belong to? Answer:  Al Green is the U.S. Representative for the 9th Congressional District of Texas. https://algreen.house.gov/. He is a member of the Democratic Party. https://ballotpedia.org/Al_Green.  Congressional District Information Since 2016, which party has won this district in each U.S. House election?  Pick 3 Texas counties within this district (there may not be three counties).  What was the percentage of votes for each presidential candidate in 2020 for these political parties for each of these counties: Democratic, Republican, Libertarian, and Green?  What are the two most populous cities in this District? Provide the names and the population of those two cities.  Provide the following information regarding political parties: Choose one of those counties you identified above. For both the Democratic and Republican Parties: identify any current Chairperson by name and official address. Choose one of those counties you identified above and provide the names of the current members of the County Executive Committee for either the Republican or Democratic Party.  U.S. Representative Information Who is the U.S. Representative from this district, and which party do they belong to? How many terms have they served in the U.S. House? What previous government experience do they have? (i.e., what previous elected or appointed government positions have they held…local, state or federal positions?) Which committees and subcommittees in the US House does this representative serve on? List two bills that have been sponsored by this Representative in the past five years. Give the number and caption (title) of the bills. Name one interest group that supported this Representative’s election in either 2018 or 2020. Which candidates ran against this Representative in the Texas primaries in 2020? Federalism: Answer these questions about your Congressional District. There may be more than one answer. Federal Courts. What division of U.S. District Courts is your Congressional District in? Does a physical federal courthouse exist in this district? Provide the address. U.S. Department of Justice. What District of the U.S. Attorney’s Office exists within your Congressional District? Identify by name 1 U.S. Attorney (US Attorney is an official title) within your Congressional District. What Army Corp of Engineers (ACE) What ACE Division and Districts lie within your Congressional District? Identify 1 ACE project within your Congressional District.
