Most importantly, they need to be active listeners (Kittaneh, 2020). As a manager, they need to create an environment that provides staff members with both structured unstructured opportunities to share feedback about their experiences at the organization. Make these opportunities a normal part of scheduled feedback sessions and regularly ask about their needs during other interactions. Once you have listened and know what they need, they need to remember that they are their employees voice to upper management (Kittaneh, 2020). They need to back them up and fight for them. Never just take no for an answer. Even if a battle is not won, they way they fight it will build trust and respect amongst staff.
