European History Research paper topic: As the Salon culture became popular in France in the 18th century, it was one of the most important places for academic discussions in the French Enlightenment period.
For my paper, I would like to research how does the rise of the salons show the women’s social identity and social status changes in the 18th century? Instruction: Use the book” Janet Aldis Madame Geoffrin: Her Salon and Her Times (1750 — 1777) ” as a primary source as the focus of your analysis, with supporting evidence. Then use two secondary sources from ” Dena Goodman The republic of letters” and “Kale, Steven, French Salons: High Society and Political Sociability from the Old Regime to the Revolution of 1848″ as supporting evidence to help with your analysis.
Those two of the secondary sources MUST have originated in paper form (book or journal) although if you access them on-line, that is fine. Please remember that this paper must have an analysis by you, rather than summarizing other people’s ideas. Please do remember that the paper is short – only 8-10 pages long and as such your paper topic should be narrow enough to have time to fully develop your idea and analysis.
