[SOLVED] Avoidance of injury (Shooting a free throw)
Im studying and need help with a Anatomy question to help me learn.
Avoidance of injury: Identify the muscles or joint structures that are most susceptible to injury during the activity. State why they are most susceptible and when in the activity the injury is most likely to occur. (3 cited sources)
The Activity is shooting a free throw without jumping.
Example:
- Avoidance of injury:
The three most common areas which experience injury while performing the snatch are the lower back, knees, and shoulders. These injuries are all commonly cited to be sustained during the catch position of the movement due to the high impact of catching the barbell in the fully squatted position with the barbell overhead (Calhoon & Fry, 1999). Majority of injuries sustained to the lower back are muscle strains caused by the eccentric contraction of the erector spinae in phase 2 of the lift. Most chronic injuries to the knee joint are caused by the sudden stretch of the patellar tendon while in the catch position, and due to this motion, this injury tends to become chronic from overuse of the joint which leads to tendonitis in weightlifters (Calhoon & Fry, 1999). The most common injury sustained to the shoulder is a strain in the medial portion of the deltoid and rotator cuff muscles from attempting to stabilize the barbell overhead while in the squatted position (Raske & Norlin, 2002). Although these injuries are common amongst weightlifters, it is reported that the vast majority of these injuries do not affect the structural integrity of the joint structures in the affected areas (Calhoon & Fry, 1999).
