The course is designed to integrate and synthesize all coursework in the Criminal Justice graduate program and related areas, allowing the student to demonstrate the professional competencies associated with a broad conceptual and practical understanding of the criminal justice field.

Let me suggest for this Unit; students locate SIX ISSUES, POLICY, PROBLEMS within criminal justice, you would like to explore during the course. Each unit builds on the other. You can make it easier on yourself to identify 6 issues you would like to explore. This research will be useful for all 5 units. You are then to provide an Annotated Bibliography for two of the issues. You will have an opportunity to edit the Unit 1 IP, per my grading feedback, please put edits in RED.

Additionally, for an A students must explore alternative arguments in the Unit 1 IP. State more than one perspective.

Note; IN THIS UNIT STUDENTS ARE EXPLORING THE SIX ISSUES IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE, OF WHICH TWO WILL BE NEEDED THROUGHT OUT THE COURSE, AND STUDENTS ARE PROVIDING AN ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY FOR THOSE TWO ISSUES.

In order to receive an A you must explain it from different angles and perspectives.

Assignment:

The Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution pertains to states’ rights. It was ratified on December 15, 1791. The Tenth Amendment explicitly states the Constitution’s principle of federalism by providing that powers not granted to the federal government nor prohibited to the states, but by the Constitution are reserved, respectively, for the states or the people.

Currently, there are a number of states in contention with the federal government over immigration reform and enforcement of immigration laws.

Please include answers in your main posting for the following questions. Support your answers with your research on states’ rights. You must provide a meaningful main topic supported by references.

• Do you think the states should have a sovereign right to enact laws that mirror the federal law for the purpose of immigration violations? Why or why not? Explain in detail.
• In your interpretation, how has the U.S. Supreme Court dealt with this issue? Explain.
• In your own words, how does a federal republic function? Does the majority rule? Explain in detail.
