As you will know from the lectures and the readings, there are two polar types of leadership: Model I and Model II (also known as “Theory X” and “Theory Y”). In the 1960s, social scientists came to believe that different types of situation required different styles of leadership. Of these, Fiedler’s Contingency Model, which is now half a century old, still has enough credibility to appear in contemporary textbooks on leadership, such as the one we are using, which was published in 2015. Your assignment is as follows:

Carefully study pages 67-73 of the text, in which Fiedler’s theory is presented. On page 71 is a diagram (Figure 3-1, Fiedler’s Contingency Model). It is reproduced below for your convenient reference. Write a paper of 3-5 pages (not including your cover page and reference page) in length in which you explain that diagram. Do you agree or disagree with Fiedler? Justify your position.
