What are the differences (or similarities) between system engineering and some of the more traditional disciplines such as civil engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineer, and so on?

{{Systems engineering (SE) is unique when compared to other engineering disciplines, and they have some differences.
SE is focusing on the big picture and emphasizes on the system, subsystem, and components, rather than being concerned with the details down to the part level. Also, its concern goes beyond the design of a system to external factors, which constrains the design. SE aims to achieve the objective by ensuring all pieces work together.
System engineers accept and open to other options and consider alternatives before making any decision, not as the other engineering disciplines that go directly to the decision point as quickly as possible.
SE is a multidiscipline approach while other traditional engineering disciplines are more narrowly focused. Complex systems require various engineering disciplines because of the diversity of elements.}}
