Health care facilities and hospitals have to consider the basic computer skills of nurses and incorporate them into the formal curriculum in nursing. The step will aid in improving the competencies in using and managing healthcare information. The basic competencies address the needs of undergraduate students in their need to gain skills on informatics competencies in high demand.By looking at Week 1 to week 8 lesson scores I have learned that there is a need for informatics knowledge and acceptance. It is essential that a baccalaureate nurse have competency in patient care technologies and information management systems to improve cost effectiveness, improve patient safety, communicate effectively, and use clinical data and research to make informed practice initiatives (AACN, 2008, p. 17).
