The Rhetorical Analysis
Watch the video .- Identify the rhetorical situation, and then analyze the rhetorical strategies used to influence the audience. Consider the appeals of ethos (credibility), logos (logic), and pathos (emotions), then develop an analytical claim that highlights the effect of these appeals considering the situation. Consider also the rhetorical role style and image plays in the overall persuasiveness of the video.- You will need to properly quote and paraphrase your selected source throughout your text using MLA style formatting. If you use a source with an annotated script, such as from the story of stuff website, quote and paraphrase from the script using the appropriate page numbers. Use double spacing throughout and give your essay a creative title. Your analysis should be about 3 pages long.-The introduction should introduce the source being examined, identify its rhetorical situation, and present the analytical claim being made about itThe body paragraphs, like in any thesis driven essay, should follow a claim, evidence, and explanation structure. In other words, what is the take away from this analysis?Determine the rhetorical situation. Whos the rhetor? Who is the rhetors target audience? What are the target audiences characteristics and stance toward the subject? What is the rhetors purpose? What is the larger context surrounding the video?Determine how the rhetor establishes his or her credibility (ethos). What things does the rhetor do strategically in the source to increase his or her trustworthiness with the audience? What evidence, if any, does the rhetor give to make the audience think he or she is knowledgable or fairDetermine how the rhetor makes appeals to the audiences emotions (pathos). A persons emotions or feelings derive from their desires, attitudes, and deeply engrained values. Rhetors that use humor, vivid descriptions, details, and examples attempting to invoke emotional responses also count as pathos appeals.Determine the logical appeals (logos) made in the video.
