U.S. National Interest

First, identify and describe the U.S. national interest dilemma surrounding the Saudi Arabian Government’s assassination of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. How would condemning Saudi Arabia impact our national Interest? How would continuing to support them impact our national interest? What do the actions taken by the U.S. Government tell us about the priorities and worldview of the people making those decisions? Second, identify and describe the U.S. national interest dilemma surrounding the withdrawal of American troops in the Syrian Conflict. How does withdrawing those troops impact our national Interest? How would choosing to leave the troops in Syria impact our national interest? How does the breach of trust with our Kurdish allies impact American national security interests? What do the actions taken by the U.S.Government tell us about the priorities and worldview of the people making those decisions? As you examine these two issues, be sure to describe the advantages and disadvantages of both Realist and Liberalist policies in terms of U.S. national interest. How do realists view the national interest, and how do they attempt to advance it? How do liberalists view the national interest, and how do they attempt to advance it? Be sure to use the course definitions of international Realism (not to be confused with being a conventional “realist”) and international Liberalism (not to be confused with being a “liberal” in domestic politics) in your essay.
