Women’s Position in Premodern China

“Women’s education,” Sources of East Asian Tradition, contains several texts written by women for women in imperial China. Why were these texts written? What do they tell us about women’s position in premodern China and its social structures? Is it fair to say that Confucianism oppressed and marginalized women on the basis of gender, plain and simple? Or could we say that it also gave women an avenue to assert themselves, in spite of the overwhelming tendency of the dominant value system to oppress them? This is an essay of 250-300 words and should only be based from the given text only!!
