Task 1: Choose from one of the following stages: pregnancy, infancy and childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and old age. List the specific nutrition issues affecting individuals in your selected stage. Task 2: Choose a disease or medical condition that could possibly, or commonly, affect your individual. This could be anything ranging from diabetes to cirrhosis. Using the ABCDs of nutritional assessment, create a case study based on an actual client or patient. You can also make one up. Include the following in your case study: Anthropometrics, relevant biochemical tests, clinical assessment, and dietary intake analysis. Be sure to include a list of common medications that may be used to treat your patient’s condition and identify potential herb/nutrient/drug interactions that may be relevant. Identify your client’s cultural background and give clues as to their socioeconomic status and psychosocial variables. For example, your patient may be a senior living alone on a fixed income or might be living in a nursing facility with reputed staff.

Importantly, I am not merely looking for a “right answer” in this Discussion. Rather, it is the intention of this Discussion to lead you to a clear understanding of these concepts through an ongoing asynchronous dialogue with your peers. The growth, development, and learned behaviors that occur during the first year of infancy have a direct effect on the individual throughout a lifetime. For this assignment, research an environmental factor that poses a threat to the health or safety of infants and develop a health promotion that can be presented to caregivers. Create a 10-12 slide PowerPoint health promotion, with speaker notes, that outlines a teaching plan. For the presentation of your PowerPoint, use Loom to create a voice over or a video. Include an additional slide for the Loom link at the beginning, and an additional slide for references at the end. A vertical standard is one that applies to a specific industry such as construction and shipyard standards. Do you think Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) should have more vertical/industry-specific standards, or should there just be one set of horizontal standards that apply to all industries? Does your facility reflect how much you care about your patients? Here are a few questions that you may consider when creating your assessment for this area. EXAMPLE QUESTIONS Is there sufficient parking places for patients? Are parking places for the handicapped well marked and as close to the entrance as possible?  Are there wheelchair ramps and automatic doors to accommodate the handicapped, elderly and others? Is the reception area of sufficient size to allow for patient comfort? Is your facility clean? Building Your Assessment Now, it’s time to draw upon your experience as a healthcare leader. Use your past and/or present experience to create your assessment for this area. Before you can make meaningful changes, you must understand the importance of good facility management and how it impacts the success of your medical operations. An inefficient layout can cost precious time for busy providers. What questions could you ask that would be valuable in making your facility a safe, cost-effective and employee-friendly environment? Here are some things to consider as you create your assessment: Do you have a plan for future growth? Do you know if you should have one? Do you have a clear understanding of facility needs (medical space, patient flow, operations, etc.)? Is the appearance of the facility clean and neat, not worn? Is the space decorated appropriately?  Is it easy for patients to find their way around? Do you make regular rounds of the practice space to identify maintenance and repair issues?
