Summary: A theory can be used to guide practice.  This assignment is an exercise in supporting a clinical practice with theory and evidence. Directions: Identify an outcome of nursing practice in your area of practice that can be improved.  For example, if you work in home health, you may identify that throw rug use by fall risk patients is too prevalent.  You may be able to use the problem that inspired the theory concepts that you developed in week two. Identify the concept in Watson’s Theory of Caring that could represent or include the outcome.  In our example, the outcome would be the changes in self through the change in the patient’s floor covering practice. Identify a practice that can be changed or implemented that may influence the outcome. Identify the concept in Watson’s Theory of Caring that includes the practice.  In our example, the practice could be to improve the understanding of fall hazards through the engagement in a teaching-learning experience, one of Watson’s Caritas Processes. Identify exactly how these two concepts will be measured with their operational definitions. Develop a proposition between the two. Present your outcome in an APA formatted paper  meeting the University’s standards for a written assignment. Length: 5 to 7 pages including title and reference pages References: 3 to 10.  There should be enough to support the links between the concepts of the problem and the concepts of Watson’s Theory of Caring.

Many physicians feel stifled by insurance companies’ financial restrictions when practicing medicine. Many doctors have openly expressed their frustration with the current system and feel it has been hijacked by insurance companies that care about profit instead of patients. Thinking about your own experiences with health insurance companies, do you think that they should have more control over patients’ health than their doctors? Why, or why not? What do you think should be done to protect patients, support doctors, and control rapidly increasing costs? What are some experiences you have had with these kind of doctor-versus-insurance-company situations? Your journal entry must be at least 200 words. No references or citations are necessary.

Week 3: Health-Related Research and Regulations How do you balance the need to advance health-related research to cure disease with the requirement to protect the patient and “do no harm”? This is the challenge at the root of all advances in health. Health researchers who are exploring new cutting-edge therapeutic procedures, developing medications, and engineering advanced medical devices are constantly working on this delicate balance. In Week 2, you were introduced to the doctrine of informed consent and the role that it plays in allowing professionals to ethically and legally treat patients. This week, you will expand on that information and consider the critically important role that informed consent plays in health-related research. You will also continue to explore how decisions are made concerning who will receive scarce and expensive medical care. 1.      TB is one of illnesses that has horrible consequences if not treated and is fairly contagious. What is the treatment and what have we historically done for patients that are not complaint with treatment. Think about how much Protein you eat. Is it too little, too much? What about the sources – animal, vegetable or both? Write an essay about the Protein in your diet. What would you do if you were a vegetarian? What kind of a vegetarian would you be? How would you plan a plant based diet and still get all the needed amino acids?
