Hiroshima Relying only on material from the Hiroshima monograph, the textbook, and class notes and PowerPoints–thoroughly answer all of the following questions: Section One: According to the book, text, and lecture notes, why was Hiroshima such an ideal target for American bombing? What are some of the everyday elements that would be different if we today were still under a state-focused document like the Articles of Confederation and not the Constitution       2) Compare and contrast the philosophies of the Federalists and the Anti-Federalists that emerged during the time period of the Constitutional Convention through the ratification of the U.S. Constitution (roughly the late 1780s). For this assignment, select one of the following options: Option 1: Imperialism The exploitation of colonial resources and indigenous labor was one of the key elements in the success of imperialism. Such exploitation was a result of the prevalent ethnocentrism of the time and was justified by the unscientific concept of social Darwinism, which praised the characteristics of white Europeans and inaccurately ascribed negative characteristics to indigenous peoples. A famous poem of the time by Rudyard Kipling, “White Man’s Burden,” called on imperial powers, and particularly the U.S., at whom the poem was directed, to take up the mission of civilizing these “savage” peoples. Option 2: The Armenian Genocide Ethnic hatred is not new to the human race and ethnic hatred also goes hand in hand with some of the causes of World War 1 that we have discussed this week, namely nationalism and imperialism. In nationalism, the people not only believe their countrymen (those who look, talk, sound, and believe like them) are not only “better” than people of certain other countries but they also have the right and possibly even the responsibility to conquer areas with those inferior to them and take whatever resources they feel they need. Add to this the need for the leader of a country to be able to blame a certain ethnic group within that country for their problems. Such was the case in the Ottoman Empire. The Ottoman Turks launched a winter offensive into the mountains of southern Russia early in the war and suffered a severe defeat, both at the hands of the Russian army and the terrible weather they encountered. The Sultan needed a scapegoat to blame the loss on, so he picked an unpopular ethnic minority, the Armenians. Since the people seemed to believe the story, the Ottoman military rounded up as many Armenians as they could and marched them away to their fate. Describe the process of the march and eventual genocide of the Armenians. ·       Why do terrible crimes against humanity always seem to happen during a war? ·       How do foreign governments recognize and deal with this event in their relationship with Turkey? Analyze, evaluate, and develop an analytical essay using the (Army) six principles of mission command and major points from your case study (“Operation Anaconda” , to fully appraise and contrast the study. Use your time to develop a deep understanding of the case study to fully explain your stance. You are required to give an in-depth introduction of your perspective, (I feel like the events that took place happen the way it had to because the US armed forces wouldn’t have seen its own short comings any other way) provide transitional sentences from one topic to the next and finally, provide a summative conclusion. Slavery by Another Name is a documentary that challenges one of Americans’ most cherished assumptions: the belief that slavery in this country ended with the Emancipation Proclamation. The film tells how even as chattel slavery came to an end in the South in 1865, thousands of African Americans were pulled back into forced labor with shocking force and brutality. ·        Your documentary review should contain the following: A very brief summary (no more than 50 words ) that explains the premise of your chosen documentary. Your response/reaction to the film. What did learn from the documentary and what you would like to learn more about?  Describe the point of view/perspective the filmmakers take when presenting the topic of your documentary. List at least one blind spot or missed opportunity the film could have addressed.  Are there places where the filmmakers could have given the audience more information?  Identify at least one instance of bias (a preference toward one point of view over another) that occurred in the documentary. This could be from the way the film is presented, an explanation given by one of the experts interviewed, or the way the information is packaged. There will always be occurrences of bias in everything you watch in this class. This is not necessarily a negative, but becoming aware of how a preferred point of view can inform the way a story is told is one of the primary goals of this course. Where possible, discuss how the topics brought up in the film relate to subjects covered during our lectures. Throughout this course when discussing topics relating to issues of social justice or atrocities such as slavery, the Holocaust, etc. Attached is a brief article introducing a concept widely circulated among genocide scholars known as “never again (Links to an external site.).” After reviewing the article and reflecting on your chosen documentary, do you think “never again” can become a reality? If so, explain how you might as an individual be able to bring about positive change in our society?

Indentured servants were employed during the colonial era to resolve the labor shortage in the colonies. Individuals from various parts of Europe entered into contractual agreements for a prescribed period in exchange for the free fare to the colonies. Read the article,   I have provided in files. Consider the following questions, as you read: what is the difference between an indentured servant and an apprentice? Was indenture the same in the New England, Middle, and Southern/Chesapeake Bay colonies? How was it different? What educational opportunities existed for indentured servants? And for the apprentice? From your perception, which colonies were best for indenture, as well as an apprenticeship?
