Right to Die
The “Right to Die” or “Assisted Suicide” is a topic that comes up in the news from time-to-time. A name that is often associated with these topics is Dr. Kevorkian. He was an American pathologist and euthanasia activist who is historically known for publically supporting a terminal patient’s right to die. He is also considered by many to be “the grandfather” of this movement.
Different cultures and traditions disagree on the idea of “Right to Die” even if the patient has a terminal diagnosis. These cultural beliefs could be global, religious, and/or personal. For this assignment, you are asked to: Research current trends in the controversy over the “Right to Die”, please provide a copy of the article(s) you encounter to support the information you obtained.
In a 2-3 page paper, written in APA format, discuss the major points to each side of the argument. What parameters would be considered legally safe to assist a patient, in your opinion? What legal implications would be necessary to make this less of a risk for the physician/Health System? How does culture play a role? Please provide a few examples. You are welcome to include your view point on the “Right to Die” if you choose.
