Need help with my Health & Medical question – Im studying for my class.
IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING WORD LIMIT REQUIREMENTS:
Please note that each and every assignment has its own word limit.
Behavior change so difficult because predicting behavior and supporting behavior change is neither obvious nor common sense. It requires careful, thoughtful science that leads to a deep understanding of the nature of what motivates people and the social and economic pressures that act upon them (Kelly, M. P., & Barker, M. 2016).
The reasons why behavior change is such a challenge for individuals comes down to six common errors. Common sense, we mean the idea that understanding human behavior is so obvious that it needs little or no serious thought. It is about getting the message, across non-evidence-based models of behavior change in which messaging is the principal mechanism. Knowledge and information drive behavior, information from expert sources as a driver of behavior change. People act rationally, that they do what they know to be sensible and logical after critical and rational appraisal of the evidence. People act irrationally, People have their own reasons for doing things. It is possible to predict accurately, great strides in identifying key factors that shape behavior and in what works in changing behavior, it is still very difficult to say with any certainty how individual people will behave in any given situation.
The role and goal of public health in influencing behavior change is through Health education. The regressive inference approach is premised on the notion that things do not happen in a random or chance way; social relations and social practices are patterned. Current public health policy stresses the potential of cumulative, small changes in individual behavior to produce significant advancements in population health (Kelly, M. P., & Barker, M. 2016).
The challenges in helping people change behavior fall into one of six types: The change is impossible, as the situation stands. The change is too complex. The change is too hard to expect people to be able to accomplish on their own. The change takes too much time. The change is not important enough for the target population for them to want to engage in it. The target population forgets to perform the action that the change requires. (Supporting and Maintaining Behavior Change. 2019).
The different classifications of behavior change, one-time changes, repeated but finite changes, permanent lifestyle changes and situational changes. One-time changes, you may have to provide support, but once the action has been taken, an example of this Donating a kidney. Repeated, but finite changes require support for the change itself is important but help with maintaining the change until the goal is reached is more important. An example of this getting a child, the appropriate immunizations. Permanent lifestyle changes need to be sustained forever if they’re to be effective, support for both action and maintenance are crucial. An example quitting smoking. Situational changes need to be maintained over the long term, but only require action in certain situations. Although these actions don’t need to be performed constantly, they really need to be treated as a combination of all three other types. Example of this using car seat belts.

Eleven million people in the United States are allergic to one or more food ingredients. Each year, 30,000 of these people end up in the emergency room after suffering allergic reactions, and hundreds of them die. Do food manufacturers have a responsibility to ensure consumers read, understand, and follow warnings on food products? Explain your answer.

Assignment: Reflection Essay: Positive Social ChangeAn Evolving Perspective
Im studying for my Sociology class and need an explanation.
As demonstrated in the first week of this course, there is no one single definition for terms such as social responsibility and social change. These are complex concepts determined by multiple factors. You may now recognize some of the key contributing factors that lead to social responsibility in action. Has your initial understanding of social responsibility and social change evolved through your work in this course? Have the shared comments of colleagues as well as the Learning Resources provided further insight into the value of working collectively to achieve social change?
In this Reflection Essay, you reflect on how this course has influenced your overall understanding and approach to positive social change.
Write a 3- or 4-paragraph essay in which you briefly analyze the importance and feasibility of working toward social change. Address the following:
- Describe how your perspective has evolved or changed through this course and how you believe it will continue to evolve after the course.
- Explain how this experience has influenced your ability to create positive social change beyond the term of this course.

Population groups have various differences that are determined by culture, religion and ethnicity and they also have unique views on illness behavior and beliefs. African Americans are a patient population group that is at risk for several illnesses due to their race. Due to their race they have increased risk of diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, asthma, obesity, chronic kidney disease, myocardial infarction, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases (Saab et al., 2015). Research has found that there is underlying genetic mechanisms that may be responsible for the increased risk of these conditions, especially hypertension and kidney disease (Saab et al., 2015). Another risk factor is that African Americans follow the Western diet which consists of a high intake of fructose-containing sugars and sweetened beverages which has impacted their risk of developing diabetes and obesity. Other risk factors include lower education levels, high rates of poverty, less access to healthcare and higher uninsured rates. Clinical based-research have found that nutritional and lifestyle education and intervention are extremely important to start during adolescence for this population (Correa-de-Araujo, 2016). Interventions with a clear goal setting, self-monitoring, health coaching, social networking, and lessons about nutrition, metabolism, portion control, and physical activity components have improved health outcomes (Correa-de-Araujo, 2016, p.9). This is important to start before this group has obesity-related debilitation, illnesses and other possible health complications.
The Joint National Committee conducts and analyzes evidence-based studies and formulates recommendations based on those findings. They have focused on improving patient outcomes and decreasing the prevalence of uncontrolled hypertension in African Americans. They recommend that the first-line drug choice as monotherapy in treating hypertension by either a thiazide diuretic or a calcium-channel blocker (Sessoms, Reid, Williams & Hinton, 2015). This is the recommendation because research has found that angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors and angiotensin II receptor blockers are less effective in the African American population (Sessoms et al., 2015). Guidelines also include educating this population on lifestyle modifications such as increased physical activity, weight loss and sodium restriction. Since African Americans are at risk for so many health conditions and complications it is essential to use evidence-based practice guidelines in managing these illnesses across the age continuum. Other evidence-based practice guidelines that can be used throughout their lifespan is proper screening, being aware of how this population copes, being aware of the role of extended family in caring for other family members and this impact on their health (Bailey, 2019). It is also important to integrate the culture, context, persona, and family history into your conceptualization in treating African Americans and to avoid misdiagnosis by following these guidelines because misdiagnosis is a chronic issue with this population (Bailey, 2019).
