For the paper, choose a fictional character. This “client” may be from a movie, TV show, or book –With the exception of Dr. House or any Kardashian. DO NOT use someone you actually know.

1. Make sure you clearly outline your chosen character in the form of an intake. Sufficient history will be needed. Give an overall summary of the film/show/book and discuss how it does/does not reflect reality and how it does not reflect reality of many individuals struggling with addiction.

2. Identify an appropriate screening instrument(s) to evaluate the client’s diagnosis, stage of dependence, change, or recovery. Please justify your choice of instrument. There are instruments listed in your textbook as well as on the SAMHSA website.

Student 1: “I think the most bizarre part of our culture is how much we work. A majority of our days, besides sleeping, is working. In so many other countries there is way more of an emphasis put on having a break from work and being able to spend time with family, where in our culture working 14 hour days for some careers is very normal. Even with things such as when someone has a child, in other places new mothers can have maternity leave for four months and up to a year can be given off, but in our culture women are back to work most times within a couple months. Overall, working is more stressed in our culture than in others, which seems like the strangest part of it to me.“

Student 2: “I hope people understand what I’m trying to say so bare with me. This is one of those things that sound better in your head and it’s hard to explain. But I feel the strangest thing about our culture is American’s fast food. I feel like its a huge problem. They are in every town and are at every corner of the US. They are very popular and I don’t see why people cannot just eat at home or a healthier option. There’s a stereotype that Americans are all fat and that we only eat Mcdonald’s. I’m a big fan of fast food I cannot lie I do get it sometimes but I think it’s crazy to see cars lined up the road and back for Chick-Fil-A. The new one on 17 in NJ is always crowded. People would rather wait in line forever than eat something else. Popeyes chicken sandwich is taking the US by storm once again and people get violent and aggressive over it. I have seen these acts on the news and on social media. I feel that some food at these fast food places can even be addictive. We often don’t know what’s in our food or don’t care. We only care for the taste. That may sound ridiculous but I used to eat the same Taco Bell all the time. These big companies are making a profit off of us to give us garbage and unhealthy food. American’s should stop being lazy and make food themselves. It’s cheaper and healthier. There’s even other restaurants and places to get food where we should be happy and satisfied with what we put in our bodies. Fast food places should not be a big part of what we Americans eat or apart of their life as much as it is.”

When president trump assumed office in 2017, there was a ton of controversy surrounding him and the election of 2016. Some said the election was rigged and the Russians were behind it.
